Some of Merseyside’s top young squash players will have the benefit of specialist coaching.

A total of 24 youngsters have been selected to attend the new Centre of Squash Excellence, which has been opened at Liverpool Cricket Club. The juniors will receive coaching and training based on the national coaching scheme prescribed by the England Squash Association. The aim is to develop junior players towards the high standards required to achieve Northwest status.

“We have held inaugural sessions over a number of months, from we have selected the most suitable players,” explained head coach John Newton. The youngsters invited to start the program are:

Group 1: Bethan Hughes, Ricky Langlands, Bradley Rigby, Connor Sheen (Y-Squash), James Molyneux, Charles Job, Katrina Burrows, Ameel Al Gamri, Kathryn Keighley (Heswall), Adam Pritchard (New Brighton), William Kynaston (Northern Crosby), Ben Doyle (Liverpool Cricket), Alex Rutter (New Brighton).

Group 2: Sam Fletcher, Ben Fletcher, Joe Grove (West Lancs), David Fumpson, George Johnson, Anthony McCartney, Mathew Lythgoe (Liverpool Cricket), Sam Sheen (Y Squash), Alex Berry (Northern Crosby), Tom Barlow (West Lancs), Katrina Burrows, Sandy Burrows (Heswall).
